Announcement on the increase in racist violence June 2026
Read below the GFM`s announcement on June 11, 2026 regarding the increasing attacks of racist violence in Greece:
WARNING! Racists are on the move
The Greek Forum of Migrants calls on all migrant and refugee communities, LGBTIQ+ and religious groups, all minorities who endure racism on a daily basis, as well as all Greek citizens who consider themselves democrats, multiculturalists and anti-racists, to be on heightened alert for any racist attacks, violence and crimes and hate speech throughout Greece.
For the last few days, we observe an increase in cases - attacks, and incidents of hate speech and hate crime, unfortunately not only by just citizens but also by representatives of the state.
Indicatively, in the last few days there have been:
- an organized attack and injury to the president of the Association of Filipinos in Greece in Ampelokipi at their cultural festival,
- an attack and injury to a trans woman in Kallithea,
- an attack and beating of two young Egyptians in Kallithea and the leaking of false news against them,
- homophobic attack in Zappeion,
- attacks on migrant minors in Mesologi, Patras, Patmos by other minors,
- intimidating actions with fascist slogans and Nazi salutes by a group of minors-students in Alexandroupouli.
- extreme statements in Parliament by government MP M. Voridis: “Are we going to sink the boat or not?” in the context of the debate-vote on the principle of the new draft law on Migration.
Hate speech is not an opinion, it is a crime.
Hate crime is punished more severely.

- Call 11414 (24h Hellenic Police Hotline for Racist Crime). Report it even ANONYMOUSLY.

- IN ANY CASE:
ASK FOR THE COPY OF YOUR REPORT, in order to have it as a temporary proof of identity, for any random police checks.
IMPORTANT:
- If the perpetrator is a police officer or civil servant, all above services follow the exact same procedure.
- If the incident takes place on a bus or on the road, the Unit’s investigation can identify the perpetrators.
- You can report an incident up to 3 months after it happened.
RACIST BULLYING at school: What can I do?
If the school cannot resolve the situation, and if the parent does not wish to make an official report (lawsuit), call 11414 or an RVRN’s Network member for proper guidance. When the perpetrator is an adult (teacher or principal), a recommendation can be made by the Greek Police to the school management (even without filing a lawsuit).
