Join the Rainbow Buddies Scheme!
Through the @nclusion programme, in which the Greek Forum of Migrants participates in collaboration with Symplexis, we connect LGBTQI+ newcomers with a migrant or refugee background, mainly based in Athens, with local volunteer mentors, aiming to support social inclusion, boost confidence, and facilitate their orientation in everyday life in the city.
The programme includes two group activities per month,(e.g. outdoor cultural activities, picnics, creative or wellbeing workshops), as well as at least one one-to-one meeting for social connection and/or individual support.
Through the programme, activities focusing on awareness-raising, empowerment, and collaboration are developed, while a core component is the mentoring scheme “Rainbow Buddies”, which aims to connect people and foster meaningful support relationships. In this context, we would be very happy to collaborate with you by sharing this call with individuals in your community who might be interested, either as:
- Mentors, offering support, guidance, and the opportunity to build a meaningful connection with their buddy
- Mentees, LGBTQI+ migrants or refugees who would like to receive support, feel empowered, and strengthen their sense of connection and safety in their daily lives
The programme places emphasis not only on individual support but also on building bridges between communities, enhancing cooperation and understanding around the needs of LGBTQI+ migrants.
Additionally, mentors will not only have a supportive role but will also take part in a specially designed training, through which they will gain valuable knowledge and skills in communication, support practices, and intercultural understanding. In this way, the experience is truly mutual, offering growth and value to the mentors themselves as well.
Participation is free of charge and includes meetings, activities, and continuous support throughout the duration of the programme.
