RAISE Project launches to Combat Gender-Based Violence in Migrant Communities

RAISE Project launches to Combat Gender-Based Violence in Migrant Communities

Read below more about the kick-off meeting announcement for the RAISE Project.

One in two women in the EU above the age of 15 has experienced sexual harassment, and 22% of women who have been in a partnership have endured sexual and/or physical violence by a partner. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) violates the fundamental rights of women and girls, enshrined in Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. While GBV is a global and systemic issue, women and girls in displacement and migrant contexts face compounded risks—before departure, during their journey, and after arrival.

To address these urgent challenges, Generation for Change CY together with Κυπριακός Σύνδεσμος Οικογενειακού Προγραμματισμού - ΚΣΟΠ / Cyprus FPA (Cyprus), BIA - STOP (Greece), Greek Forum of Migrants - Ελληνικό Φόρουμ Μεταναστών (Greece), Fundación Cepaim (Spain), and SEDRA-Federación de Planificación Familiar (Spain), with the support of Generation 2.0 for Rights, Equality & Diversity (Greece), launched the project RAISEFrom Awareness to Action: Building Resilience Against Gender-Based Violence in Migrant Communities.

The RAISE project officially kicked off in Athens on April 7–8, 2025, hosted at the premises of the Greek Forum of Migrants. During the two-day meeting, partners shared insights, discussed key project priorities, and collaboratively designed the implementation plan to ensure the achievement of RAISE’s ambitious goals.
The specific objectives and expected results of the RAISE project are to:

- Conduct in-depth research on the experiences of migrant women in relation to GBV through 15 focus groups, 42 professional interviews, and 1,100 questionnaires, generating a comprehensive research report and recommendations.

- Enhance the knowledge and capacity of 156 migrant women and 110 migrant men through capacity-building workshops on GBV awareness and prevention.

- Establish 3 Empowerment Groups (one per country) for migrant women leading to the development of action plans that foster personal and collective agency against GBV.

-Reach 250,000 individuals through a wide-reaching awareness-raising campaign, including public events, dissemination activities, a multilingual e-platform, and targeted social media actions.

The kick-off meeting marked the beginning of a two-year journey to foster empowerment, community-based resilience, and structural change in how GBV is understood and addressed in migrant contexts.

Stay tuned for updates, and join us in taking RAISE from awareness to action.
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the CERV-2024-DAPHNE Program.
