Meeting with Ministry of Migration and Asylum 2024
Read below about the meeting that took place between the Ministry of Migration and Asylum in Greece and the migrant GFMs communities-members:
On Monday 29th of January 2024, after being invited by the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, a meeting took placce with the representatives of third country citizens that are registered officially at the Ministry`s Registry.
Almost all organisations and communities -members of the Greek Forum of Migrants were present, and their representatives talk about the problems they are facing today.
Specifically, the communities that were represented and took the floor for a presentation were:
Egyptian Community in Greece
Albanian Community
Afghan Migrant and Refugee Community
Georgian Cultural Centre CAUCASUS
Migrant Youth Network "Horizons"
Greek-Sudanese Friendship League
United Ukrainian Diaspora
Trembita and Ukrainian Women community
Ivorian Community in Greece
Burundian Community in Greece
Senegalese Community in Greece
Congolese Community in Greece
Pakistan Journals Club in Greece
Nigerian Community
PIGI Koinsep Organization
Nigerian Women Organization
Albanian Women Association in Greece
Furthermore, on behalf of our body association GFM, an updated Memorandum 2024 was submitted to the Ministry which contains the major challenges and problems the migrant population faces today. During the meeting that lasted more than 3 hours, both parties discussed about delays of the residence permits expedition, the new Ministerial decision about the confinement of travelling until 31/03/2024, the new legalization law, the retirements for migrants, the problems of the absent Integration, and about the problems that asylum seekers and refugees are dealing with today in Greece, and also many other topics concerning more than 550.000 people living in Greece.
The Greek Forum of Migrants, as a secondary body association, coordinated the discussion on behalf of the migrant commuities. We expect from the Ministry`s political leadership, immediate solutions as discussed and promised, and also the continuing efforts for communication and cooperation.
